Financial Expertise for Professional Services Firms

I assist professional services firms such as architecture and engineering firms, law firms and medical practices in planning and executing their ownership and leadership transition and understanding how to drive profitability.

A typical client might be a small-to-medium-sized firm with a handful of senior partners who want to retire and need to know how to transition the business to the next generation of leadership.  Based on management and employee interviews and a detailed review of a firm's financials, I develop and present the financial strategy for the transition, including valuation and the mechanics of transfer of shares or membership units.  This is presented in the form of a comprehensive financial model and a narrative document describing the strategy.  I also work with partners who can advise on the many non-financial management issues associated with ownership transition.

Alternatively, a client might seek to understand and improve their profitability metrics.  I break down profitability into its component parts, benchmark firms relative to peers, and help them figure out how to make targeted improvements to drive financial performance.
